I watched a tutorial on Facebook the other day from Michael's using Crayola Slick Stick Twistable crayons. Had to have some!!!! I went on the Crayola site and ordered a 12 color set for 9.99 plus s/h. They came in today. They are really cool, softer than regular crayons, their consistency is more like lipstick. They go onto your surface very well (this piece had layers of background paper, images, a transparency, gel medium, gesso, tissue paper, first). I am the first to admit I am a remedial drawer but these crayons help buffer that (lol). You can draw with them and then dip your finger in water and rub over the colored areas and that blends and spreads the color giving the piece a watercolor look. I attempted a tree, then plants around the door and then just loose, abstract color around the transparency (still not liking the square look of those edges - got to work on that). It seemed a bit bright to me so I added a layer of gesso over the entire piece, this was too thick so I dipped my sponge brush in water and went back over it. Still not quite there, I counted to ten, then pulled a baby wipe (keep on hand for cleaning my stamps and all sorts of things) and wiped down the entire piece rubbing over and muting areas. I had a dry paper towel laying on my work area that I used to clean the yellow crayon after getting some red and orange on it so I picked it up and started rubbing the color from the towel onto the canvas adding more subtle color. I went back to the used baby wipe and did a bit more rubbing here and there to flatten the color. I think it still needs a little more, I like the look so far and I know in time it will tell me what else it needs.

That's dead cool Joni. It looks ace. And you can use the wet wipe & paper towel in another collage piece too.
